The Michelin Guide UK & Ireland 2022 is out and there are a number of notable additions. Restaurants in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland continue to fight their way back after an extremely challenging couple of years. But if anything, standards have risen across the board, which is reflected in the addition of some new stars, and the retention of others.
Foregoing the usual ceremony due to pandemic restrictions and safety concerns, the Michelin Guide made its star revelation for 2022 on social media, announcing one new three-Michelin-star restaurant - L’Enclume, in Cartmel, Cumbria, by chef Simon Rogan.

There was some notable movement in the two-star category, with Dublin getting a brace of two-star restaurants - Chapter One by Mickael Viljanen, and Liath, in Blackrock, by chef Damien Grey. In London, Jeremy Chan’s Ikoyi was promoted to two stars, as was The Clove Club in Shoreditch. Wales got a new two-star restaurant, along with Gareth Ward's Ynyshir, Machynlleth, Powys.

The guide also announced its Green Stars for sustainability, as well as special awards for exceptional service in the hospitality industry. The Chef Mentor Award went to Philip Howard, who runs the Elystan Street restaurant in Chelsea, London. The Young Chef Award went to three individuals for the very first time - the Selby brothers - Luke, Nathaniel and Theo, who run Evelyn’s Table, a French and Japanese-inspired basement restaurant in London’s West End. The Welcome and Service Award was picked up by Dale Dewsbury at Andrew Fairlie, Gleneagles Hotel, Scotland; and the Sommelier Award was given to Isa Bal at Trivet, London. The Opening of the Year Award – was scooped by SY23 in Aberystwyth, Wales.
