The Michelin Guide to Washington DC 2020 has been announced are there are some major surprises.
While there was no change to its three-star and two-star categories, chef Patrick O’Connell’s The Inn at Little Washington retains its three and Jose Andres’ minibar keeps its two along with Pineapple and Pearls. However, all the headlines were grabbed by the Michelin Guide’s decision to award a star to Sushi Nakazawa located in Trump Tower.
“There was no pause about the hotel that it’s located in. It’s all about the food on the plate for the star,” says the chief inspector of the U.S. Michelin team, speaking to Bloomberg on condition of anonymity.
While there are no steaks on the menu at Sushi Nakazawa, the inspector added that for $150, the value for fish n the plate represented very good value.
The team behind Pineapple and Pearls and Rose’s luxury, with two stars and one respectively, picked up yet another for their Little Pearl restaurant, a café with an evening tasting menu offering seven to eight courses for less than $50.
Promoted from Bib Gourmand to one star is Middle Eastern Maydan, which is noted for its dramatic live-fire cooking.
Superstar chef Kwame Onwuachi’s Kith and Kin Afro-Caribbean restaurant was overlooked by inspectors and failed to gain a star this year.
