Chef Carolina Bazán is named Latin America's Best Female Chef 2019

Chile's Carolina Bazán has been named as Latin America's Best Female Chef, ahead of Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants 2019 award ceremony sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, which will take place on Thursday, 10 October 2019, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Bazan has two Santiago restaurants along with her life and business partner Rosario Onetto - Ambrosía- and the more casual Ambrosía Bistro – both known for their market-led menu with a French spin. Their first modern family restaurant, Ambrosía was named The One to Watch in 2014 when she first took to the helm, while more "urban" Ambrosia Bistro is their most recent venture.

“Being named Latin America’s Best Female Chef is an honour for me, not just because of what I’ve accomplished at my restaurants, but because of the balance I’ve had to instill in my personal and work life,” said Bazán. “I worked really hard for this, but I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my family. They are my priority in every aspect of my life.” 

This is the seventh year that this award has been given in recognition of female role models to inspire future generations of young women both in the kitchen and beyond. Previous recipients of the Latin America’s Best Female Chef Award include Pía León, from Central and Kjolle in Peru in 2018; Leonor Espinosa, from Leo in Colombia in 2017; Kamilla Seidler from Gustu in Bolivia in 2016; Brazilian chef Roberta Sudbrack in 2015; Elena Reygadas, from Rosetta in Mexico in 2014; and Helena Rizzo, from Maní in Brazil in 2013.
