Latin America 50 Best Restaurants

Latin America 50 Best Restaurants

Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants is an exclusive list of the finest restaurants in Central and South America, sponsored by S.Pellegrino.

The annual list is revealed during an exciting annual red-carpet award ceremony with industry leaders, restaurateurs and media in attendance, climaxing with the highly anticipated announcement of the coveted title of “Best Restaurant in the World.”

The inaugural awards ceremony took place in Lima, Peru in 2013 and featured the talent of chefs from 31 countries up and down Latin America between Mexico and Argentina. Latin America’s 50 Best has taken place in various locations including Bogota in Colombia, Mexico City and Lima in Peru.

The Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards ceremony is live-streamed on Fine Dining Lovers, and the results are published online and via social media as soon as they have been announced to the assembled chefs, sponsors and attending media.

The event has creayed a close-knit community of chefs around the world, and a sense of camaraderie amongst those chefs and restaurants that appear regularly.

Peru dominated the early years of the list with all previous winners being from the mountainous country - previous winners have included Astrid y Gastón, Peru (2013), Central restaurant in Peru (2014, 2015 and 2016), Maido, Peru – Best Restaurant in Peru (2017 and 2018).

In addition to the main ranking, the organisation also awards a series of special prizes for individuals and restaurants, including; the One To Watch award, the Lifetime Achievement Award counting Gaston Acurio, Enrique Olvera and Alex Atala among its winners, the Best Female chef Award, previously won by Daniela Soto-Innes, Leonor Espinosa, Pia Leon and Roberta Sudbrack and Latin America’s Best Pastry chef and the Chefs' Choice Award, the latter is based on votes from the fifty head chefs from the restaurants on the previous year's list.

The first edition of #50BestTalks Latam, a series of live culinary conferences and demonstrations that focus on the gastronomic strengths of a particular region took place in 2018 on the theme “Meat the future”. In the speaker line-up were Chef Jefferson Rueda from Sao Paolo's pork-based restaurant, A Casa do PorcoNarda Lepes from Narda Comedor in Buenos Aires serving plant based cuisine, Édgar Nuñez from Mexico City's Sud777 and panellists Leonor Espinosa, Latin America's Best Female Chef 2017 from restaurant Leo in Bogota, Colombia  joined by Argentina’s king of meat Pablo Rivero from Don Julio in Buenos Aires.
