The Michelin Guide to Croatia 2021

The Michelin Guide has announced its 2021 edition for Croatia, with news of three more restaurants joining the red book's one-Michelin-star list - Agli Amici Rovinj, Alfred Keller and Nebo.

New Italian restaurant Agli Amici in Rovinj was opened by Italian chef Emanuele Scarello of Agli Amici in Udine, Italy, and is run by chef Lorenzo Lai inside a luxury hotel.

Alfred Keller offers a French-style menu inside the Alhambra luxury hotel in the village of Mali Losinj. Chef Christian Kuchler oversees the kitchen run by his protégé Michael Gollenz.

And, finally, Nebo, fronted by a young chef Deni Sdroc, is found on the fifth floor of the Hilton Costabella hotel in Rijeka, and serves authentic local cuisine.

There are now ten restaurants in Croatia that hold the one-star accolade. The three newcomers join restaurants Draga di Lovrana, Boskinac, Noel, Pelegrini, 360º, Monte, and LD Terrace who have retained their one-star rating since last year. The guide has yet to nominate any two or three-Michelin-star restaurants.

Zinfandel’s restaurant received the Michelin Green Star this year for its inspiring commitment to more sustainable and responsible gastronomy.

The guide also acknowledged that the country has had a troubled year driven by the health crisis, coupled with a natural disaster. “These last few months have been difficult for the country, not just with the health crisis, but also with the deadly earthquake. Despite these dramatic ordeals, the Croatian culinary scene is growing, especially on the coast and in the capital. Our inspectors were able to discover professionals who are passionate about and committed to their land,” said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide.
