Michelin-starred dining in London doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, there are numerous affordable Michelin star restaurants in the UK capital, with many offering great set-menu deals, particularly at lunchtime and often for under £50 a head, excluding drinks and service. Take a look at our list of reasonably-priced Michelin-star restaurants in London below.
Angler
No prizes for guessing the thrust of this restaurant atop the South Place Hotel in the city. Led by executive chef Gary Foukes, Angler is all about sustainable British seafood, as well as all manner of other robust British ingredients (look out for the rabbit and squid Bolognese).
Dinner by Heston
Want a bite of Blumenthal without having to first sweatily consult your banking app? Head to Dinner by Heston – the only two-Michelin-star restaurant in London on this list – at lunchtime. You might even get to try a Heston Blumenthal classic like snail porridge.
Elystan Street
Smoked mackeral veloute with Porthilly oysters, leek hearts and smoked eel toast
Chef Phil Howard’s Chelsea eatery is BIG on flavour. Expect punchy ingredients aplenty at Elystan Street (hand-cut strozzapreti with a ragout of pheasant, bacon, chicken livers, sherry and bay anyone?) and very reasonable lunchtime deals. Come with taste buds primed for a pleasure ride at this affordable Michelin-star restaurant.
Kitchen W8
Chef Mark Kempson
Kitchen W8, another from Phil Howard and business partner Rebecca Mascarenhas, is a neighbourhood restaurant, albeit in a very posh neighbourhood: Kensington. But that doesn’t mean you have to remortgage to eat its ‘modern English’ food with a ‘French soul’. Expect elegant, yet unpretentious grub.
Leroy
Quail skewer
With fantastic lunch deals, Leroy, in Shoreditch, is one of London’s cheapest Michelin-star restaurants. Having won a star just eight months after relocating from nearby London Fields, the restaurant-cum-wine-bar formerly known as Ellory is also one of only a handful in the capital where service is included in the price of the food, in this case, tasty small plates showcasing prime UK ingredients.
Murano
Chef Angela Hartnett’s Michelin-starred Italian restaurant is a delight for those looking for relaxed fine dining in London. Located in the heart of Mayfair, Murano makes an ideal lunch spot to break up a West End shopping spree. Opt for the set lunch menu and enjoy some of the most delicious and reasonably priced Italian food in London.
Pied à Terre
Egg Hotdog Radish
Pied à Terre has held at least one Michelin star since 1993, making it one of the oldest Michelin-starred restaurants in London. Restaurants need to evolve, however, and with an imaginative young chef at the helm in Asimakis Chaniotis, who mixes classical French and Greek cooking, it remains contemporary.
Portland
Close to the bustle of Oxford Street, this charming modern European restaurant feels a world away from London’s busiest shopping thoroughfare, with its department stores and tacky souvenir shops. The pithivier, the contents of which change with the seasons, has been making foodies coo since the restaurant opened in 2015 – if you're lucky, you might find it on the lunch à la carte.
The Ninth
Panzanella and formage frais
Chef Jun Tanaka’s French Mediterranean-style restaurant in buzzy Fitzrovia has quietly impressed in the five years it’s been open. The ninth restaurant Tanaka has worked in, hence the name (previous includes Le Gavroche and a stint with Marco Pierre White), is big on raw and cured dishes, and vegetables, and is one of the most affordable Michelin-star restaurants in London.
Trishna
Understandably, in a country in love with Indian food, London has a wealth of Michelin-starred Indian restaurants. Trishna is a firm favourite. Focusing on the food of India’s coastal regions, the menu features abundant dishes and flavours to quicken the heart: try classic aloo chat or Welsh lamb shoulder with pickled sorrel leaves and Guntur teja chilli.
