Two decades since Simon Rogan first opened the doors of restaurant L’Enclume in a former blacksmith's workshop in the historic Lake District village of Cartmel, he has been rewarded with three Michelin stars in the UK and Ireland Michelin Guide 2022.
It's a momentous occasion for Rogan and his team: L'Enclume becomes the first restaurant in the north of England to win three stars in the same year that it celebrates its 20th anniversary.
"This is an incredible week for us all and it’s going to take some time for it to truly sink in, but we will be celebrating this moment for a long time to come," said Rogan.
L’Enclume, which is currently overseen by head chef Paul Burgalieres, has consistently been recognised for its hyper-seasonal and traceable tasting menus. Its farm-to-fork philosophy involves the use of ingredients harvested predominantly from its own farm, located a mile away in the Cartmel Valley.

The restaurant's success is testament to Rogan's belief in remaining true to a core ethos and operating as a close-knit team while remaining part of an independent restaurant group.
"Following the win of our second star nine years ago, achieving a third star has always been front of mind and something we’ve been striving for every day; be it through the evolution of our dishes and honing of our service-style, the meticulous work undertaken on Our Farm, or how we work to make every one of our guests feel, from when they enter the restaurant to the moment they leave," said the chef.
