Michelin Guide Germany 2021 - The Full List

The Michelin Guide has announced its new edition for Germany 2021, and despite the ongoing pandemic, the red book has added one new three-star restaurant, three new two-star restaurants and 25 new one-star restaurants.

Germany boasts 10 three-star restaurants altogether, and the Michelin Guide was happy to welcome back to the top tier an “old acquaintance”, with the inclusion of Restaurant Schwarzwaldstube im Temporaire in Baiersbronn, which dates back to 1789. The Traube Tonbach hotel, which housed the original Schwarzwaldstube, was completely destroyed in a fire in January 2020 and the owners, the Finkbeiner family, moved heaven and earth to find a temporary home for Torsten Michel's kitchen to continue the pursuit of excellence in classic French cuisine. 

Three restaurants joined the group with two Michelin stars, bringing the total to 41. Esplanade in Saarbrücken by chef Silio Del Fabro serves Mediterranean cuisine, Goldberg in Fellbach by Philipp Kovacs serves contemporary cuisine, while Ösch Noir in Donaueschingen by chef Manuel Ulrich makes the jump from one to two stars. 

A whopping 25 restaurants were added to the one-star category for the first time, bringing the total in the 2021 edition to 259. And with 35 restaurants gaining the green star, Germany can lay claim to a very healthy restaurant scene, ready to welcome back diners in the near future.

There were also three special awards given to restaurant professionals. The Young Chef Award goes to Philipp Stein from the restaurant Stein's Traube in Mainz-Finthen. The Service Award went to sommelier Heike Philipp from Philipp, a restaurant in the picturesque wine village of Sommerhausen. The Mentor Chef Award went to Hans Haas.
