Michelin Guide Switzerland 2020: See the New Starred Restaurants

The new Michelin stars for Switzerland were announced during a live ceremony in Lugano, Switzerland this evening with news of six new two-star restaurants making the grade plus 12 new one-star restaurants.

Michelin Director, Gwendal Poullennec, was on stage to host the awards in the country he said has become a "key destination for gourmets from around the world", on an evening in it was a "pleasure to celebrate the dynamism and diversity of swiss culinary scene" which boasts 122 starred restaurants in the guide.

A healthy showing of talented young chefs and new restaurants caught the attention of this year's inspectors as they bounced on stage and congratulations spilt from the stage in a mix of German, Italian, English and French. However, there was one clear winner on the night, the chef from one of Switzerland's trio of three-starred restaurants and dubbed the "superstar of Swiss gastronomy", Andreas Caminada.

Supporting from the sidelines during the evening he pushed his young chefs into the spotlight to receive two stars for two of his IGNIV restaurants, before being put in the limelight himself being called up on stage to receive the Mentor Award and celebrate the retention of his three stars at Schloss Schauenstein. Caminada will have even more opportunities to flex his mentorship muscle later in the year when he becomes a member of the Grand Jury the S.Pellegrino Young Chef competition, responsible for picking the best young chef in the world.

At the closing of the ceremony, Caminada was joined on stage by Franck Giovannini Restaurant de l'Hôtel de Ville (Crissier) and Peter Knogl at Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl (Basel) who also retained their three stars.

Michelin Guide to Switzerland 2020 - Special Awards

Four special awards were alwo given out during the ceremony, as follows;

The Young Chef Award went to Marie Robert for her feminine, modern and creative cuisine at Café de Suisse in Bex which received its first-star last year.

Marc Almert from Pavillon restaurant in Zurich won the Sommelier Award for his humility and a unique vision of wine pairing.

The Service Award went to a charismatic restaurant manager creating memorable dining experiences; Ruth Wiget-Keiser from Adelboden in Steinen.

The Chef Mentor Award went to Andreas Caminada from Schloss Schauenstein - the "Superstar of swiss gastronomy."
