The Michelin Guide to Brazil 2016 has been unveiled, with four restaurants receiving their first Michelin star.
One Michelin Star
The four are: Eleven Rio in Rio de Janeiro, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant headed by German chef Joachim Koerper, Rodrigo Oliviera’s Mocotó (number 35 in the 50 Best Restaurants in Latin America), which serves contemporary Sao Paulo cuisine, and Kan Suke and Tête à Tête, also both in São Paulo.
Kan Suke is a tiny Japanese restaurant inside a shopping mall, described by the Michelin Guide Brazil 2016 as a "gastronomic jewel," while Tête à Tête serves Brazilian cuisine with Spanish and French influences.
Two Michelin Stars
Alex Atala’s D.O.M. retains the two stars it was awarded in the inaugural Michelin Guide to Brazil 2015, which was leaked online last year. No restaurants were awarded the guide’s prestigious three star rating.
The Michelin Guide now recommends a total of 157 restaurants in Brazil – not all with stars of course – though none outside of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Click to browse their recommendations, which include Bib Gourmand selections.
