Chef Breaks Scotch Egg World Record

British chef Leigh Evans smashed the record for the biggest scotch egg in the world with a magnificent 8.3 kg whopper that had a 1.7 kg ostrich egg at its centre.

Evans, chef at egg producers Clarence Court, crafted the world’s biggest scotch egg using his own recipe that included 1kg of grated cheddar, 2kg of breadcrumbs and nearly 5kg of peas, and took six hours to make.

The challenge was undertaken by Evans as part of Clarence Court’s National Vegetarian Week celebrations. The scotch egg does not contain sausage meat, instead using peas as a substitute.

"This was a first for me, having not created anything so large in my cooking career,” he said. "I always enjoy a challenge, and this was one that I really did enjoy doing. I am delighted to have broken a Guinness World Record title and have had enormous fun creating this much-loved picnic staple."

An adjudicator from the Guinness Book of Records was on hand to weigh the creation and confirm its supremacy as the biggest scotch egg in the world.
