Michelin Guide Kyoto, Osaka + Okayama 2021: See the list of New Stars

The Michelin Guide Kyoto Osaka 2021 has landed, which this year also includes the debut restaurant listing for Okayama Prefecture, as well as the the new Michelin Green rating.

Culinary capital Kyoto continues to lead the pack with 216 restaurants listed, and Osaka is close behind with 207 restaurants. The two cities boast twenty new one-star restaurants in total for 2021, with thirteen in Kyoto and seven in Osaka.

Okayama prefecture makes its debut entry with 193 restaurants, including two new restaurants entering with two stars, Kuikiri Ryori Happo (Japanese cuisine) in Okayama City, and Sushi En. Eighteen restaurants received their first stars, including sushi, Chinese, Italian and French restaurants.

Speaking of the new guide - which features a very diverse selection of cuisines, from Indian and Italian, to specialised freshwater eel and fugu establishments, and tonkatsu restaurants - Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides, said: “Once again, we are delighted to reveal a new selection of restaurants for Kyoto, where traditional Japanese cuisine lives and breathes, and for Osaka, where a true melting pot of culinary cultures fosters a rich gastronomic landscape.
