TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Awards 2020

France has claimed the two top spots on TripAdvisor’s Travelers Choice Awards - Best Fine Dining Restaurants, with the third place going to Buenos Aires, in a list that looks very different to the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list.

Auberge du Vieux Puits, in Fontjoncouse, France, took first place in the online review platform’s annual rankings, followed by La Ville Blanche, in Rospez, France; and then Chila, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The U.K. leader is the Black Swan at Oldstead, in fourth place, while fifth place went to Leonor Espinosa’s flagship restaurant, Leo in Bogota, Colombia. Latin America’s impressive showing was confirmed by a sixth place result for Aramburu, also in Buenos Aires and an eighth place result for Restaurante 040 in Santiago, Chile.

Italy’s top rating went to the Camanini brothers’ Ristorante Lido '84, Gardone Riviera, in 18th position followed by Quintessenza in Trani, Puglia. Japan, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and New Zealand all had high-placing restaurants, the highest US position was the French Laundry in Yountville, California, at 24th.

The Travelers’ Choice Awards are based on the quantity and quality of diners’ TripAdvisor reviews and ratings specific to each award category. The absence of professional and expert judges means the winning line up has a very different complexion to other restaurant lists.

There was no place in the list for winners of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants coveted No.1 spot, Mirazur in Menton, France, past winners Eleven Madison Park in New York or Noma, in Copenhagen.
