The Michelin Guide to New York 2020 is out and as predicted, Dan Barber’s Blue Hill at Stone Barns storms into the list with two stars.
When the Guide announced it was moving beyond New York’s Five Boroughs into Westchester for this year’s list, it was taken as fait accompli that Blue Hill at Stone Barns would receive the long-overdue accolade. The restaurant has long been considered one of the best in the US so the only question that remained was whether it would garner two or three stars. Michelin almost never awards three stars on a restaurant's first inclusion, so two it is.
Atomix, Ellia Park and Junghyun Park’s uber-chic Korean restaurant also joined the ranks of two-star, joining Jungsik as one of two Korean restaurants to hold the accolade.
There is no change in the city’s three-star category with Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare, Eleven Madison Park, Le Bernardin, Masa and Per Se all retaining their stars.
Michelin looked favourably on casual spots Estela and Four Horsemen, awarding them one star. While more the expensive Le Jardinier by chef Alain Verzeroli and Jonathan Benno's Benno at the Evelyn Hotel also made the list for the first time with one each.
The $25 billion Hudson Yards complex was overlooked in the 2020 guide, with no stars for Thomas Keller’s TAK Room or David Chang’s Kawi.
