The 5th annual 100 Best Restaurants in Canada list is out, with Alo restaurant in Toronto taking the No.1 spot for the third year running. It is followed by Joe Beef (No.2) and Toqué (No.3), both located in Montreal.
Alo, led by chef Patrick Kriss, offers a French-inspired 10-course tasting menu with a broad range of international influences. The team also runs casual dining spots Aloette and Alo Bar since 2017, both of which are included in this year’s 100 Best at No.35 and No.65, respectively.
This year the list includes 24 newcomers of which 16 are newly opened venues. Canada’s 2019 Best New Restaurant award went to Italian restaurant Giulietta, coming it at No.9 on the list.
Toronto and Montreal dominate as the best cities for top dining experiences in Canada, with the two cities holding eight of the top ten spots on the list. Overall, more than half of the 100 restaurants are from Toronto and Montreal.
100 Best Restaruants in Canada, released by Canada's 100 Best magazine, is voted by an independent jury panel made of chefs, restaurateurs, food writers, critics. It is one of the most important guides to the country’s top dining venues.
