After the announcement of the departure of Michael Ellis, the world of gastronomy wondered who would succeed him. On Monday the Michelin guide answered this question via a press release announcing the promotion of Gwendal Poullennec as International Director of the Michelin Guide.
The 38-year old joined the Michelin group in 2003 after graduating from the ESSEC Business School in Cergy, France. He was named secretary general of the Michelin guide in 2014. His 15 years of experience will no doubt help him run the 32 editions of the Michelin Guide.
"Gwendal Poullennec has been the main architect of the international deployments of the Michelin guide in the United States and Asia in the last 12 years," according to a statement from the Michelin guide. He also worked on launching the guides to New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Kyoto, and more recently Bangkok or Taipei.
"Poullennec will continue to embody the values of generosity, passion and independence dear to the Michelin Group in his new role," according to the statement.
