The Michelin Guide to Kyoto and Osaka 2018 has been released and the big news is that Japan now has two new, three-Michelin-star restaurants.
Lida in Kyoto and Hajime, a French-influenced spot in Osaka that pays tribute to "the balance and harmony of nature, the earth, and space," according to its website and has a signature dish comprised of 110 herbs and vegetables, are the latest restaurants to have Michelin's highest honour bestowed upon them. Hajime currently sits at number 34 on the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list.
This means the region now has 12, three-star restaurants, the same as Tokyo at time of writing. The guide also announced 25 new one star restaurants, with 12 in Kyoto and 15 in Osaka, but no new two stars.
