The second incarnation of Swedish chef Fredrik Berselius’s Aska, located in a mid-19th century factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn has, amazingly, been awarded two Michelin stars in the leaked Michelin Guide to New York 2017, having only been open since July 2016. That puts it on the same footing, in the Michelin world, as that heavyweight of Nordic cuisine, Noma.
Berselius previously held a star at the original Aska at the nearby Kinsfolk Studios, but it seems his cooking at version 2.0, located under the Williamsburg Bridge is scaling new heights with dishes such as charred squid and seaweed tart, and cured lamb heart ash with pickled sunchoke cream. There are 10 and 19-course tasting menus priced at $145 and $215 respectively, as well as a casual bar and garden menu where you can sample elements of Berselius's cooking.
