Massimo Bottura, Italy's most renown chef, has been named the recipient of the prestigious 2014 White Guide Global Gastronomy Award.
Bottura, who has broken deep-rooted Italian traditions to give way to a more modern cuisine at this restaurant Osteria Francescana, will be honored at the White Guide Gala in Stockholm on March 3rd.
The White Guide Global Gastronomy Award is given to international food creators who inspire others with their contemporary gastronomy. Bottura was honored this year for "continually renew[ing] one of the world 's most beloved kitchen - the Italian - and add[ing] new dimensions to the senses and mind to explore and enjoy," according to a press release.
Previous recipients of the coveted award include Gaston Acurio, René Redzepi, David Chang, Ferran Adrià and the late Charlie Trotter.
Bottura's Osteria Francescana has three Michelin stars and ranks third on the World's 50 Best Restaurants list sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna.
