The opening of Gastón Acurio’s relocated restaurant Astrid & Gaston Casa Moreyra will be attended by a slew of VIPs including the world’s best chef Joan Roca and legendary Spanish chef Ferran Adrià.
Acurio made the announcement on his personal Facebook page where he proudly revealed the exclusive guest list attending the grand opening on February 16th. Among the chefs visiting his new restaurant at a historic hacienda will be Andoni Luis Aduriz from Spain who cooked with Acurio at last year's San Sebastián Gastronomika.
The rest of the VIP list is made up of renown journalist and food specialists from across the globe. There’s Howard Chua from Time magazine, New York Times correspondent Andrew Downie, Joanna Savill from Sydney’s Good Morning Herald, food ethnobiologist Andrea Pieroni from Italy and FDL’s own Ryan King.
The grand opening of Astrid & Gastón Casa Moreyra will also draw journalists and food personalities from Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Uruguay.
Astrid & Gastón Casa Moreyra is a massive undertaking by Acurio and his team. The chef tapped architect firm 51-1 Arquitectos Súper Sudaca for the $2 million project that involved restoring a pre-Hispanic hacienda in Lima.
The new restaurant, which is actually the relocation and rebranding of his award-winning Astrid & Gastón, will feature a main dining hall, private dining areas and a 60-seat gastro bar covered by passion fruit leaves and herbs used in making cocktails.
A spiral-shaped garden built by agricultural engineers adorns the outdoors while the interior is painted in elegant light colors. Another 'experimental' garden where seeds are grown in cement is situated in the back. The bathrooms are high-tech and avant garde as you can see in the image below.
