Three talented students were the stars of the 2013 Café Society Photography Competition Awards that took place in Sydney, Australia. The 14th annual competition, which also takes place in Melbourne and Brisbane, challenges contestants to photograph a series of images pertaining to one theme.
This year students of the Sydney College of Fine Art were asked to base their photography on the following scenario: One of the many reasons Café Society has become such an integral part of modern life is because we can count on its constant and reliable accessibility. But what happens when the doors are closed? Capture the essence of your café after hour.
The awards celebrations were held at the exclusive Ivy Lounge in Sydney where students, TV personalities and the media gathered to witness the announcement of the coveted awards titles.
The winners of the Sanpellegrino Café Society Photography Competition in Sydney are:
FIRST PLACE: Emily Yan Yee Ngo for her portrayal of Uliveto
SECOND PLACE: Peter Distapan for his interpretation of Beejay’s
THIRD PLACE: Christina Tsilioris for her image from Shenkin Kitchen
Stay tuned for the Café Society Photography Competition Awards' results in Brisbane. After the winners in each city have been announced, a final three will be seleced to win cash prizes. The winning photographer will receive $1,500, second will receive $500 and third will receive $250. If applicable, there will also be a creativity award of $250.
