A new trailer for the culinary drama Boiling Point has been released in advance of the film's theatrical release in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 29 December. The film has received 11 BIFA nominations including Best British Independent Film, Best Director for Philip Barantini, Best Actor for Stephen Graham, Best Supporting Actor for Ray Panthaki, Best Supporting Actress for Vinette Robinson and Breakthrough Performance for Lauryn Ajufo.
Boiling Point, starring Stephen Graham and directed by Philip Barantini, premiered at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in August to critical acclaim. It is a feature film shot in one continuous take, following the turbulent times of a restaurant kitchen and the tensions within. It is a visceral, warts-and-all look at the dark side of kitchen culture that might be the closest to reality a cinematic depiction can get.
Famed for his acclaimed collaborations with Shane Meadows, Liverpudlian Graham starts as head chef of a restaurant and follows a night’s service around Christmas. The film will be released in the UK via Vertigo on 19 November.
Directed by Barantini, an actor who has appeared in Band Of Brothers, Ned Kelly and Chernobyl, the feature is an adaptation of his award-winning short that was also shot in one continuous take.
As an actor, Barantini had to support himself through an uncertain career path and worked in restaurant kitchens for twelve years, starting at the bottom and working his way up to head chef. The film draws on his real-life experiences, on the wealth of diverse characters that pass through the hospitality industry, and the tensions and tough working conditions that all contribute to a 'pressure-cooker' environment.
The crew completed filming of Boiling Point in March 2020, just before lockdown, so the feature has been in post-production for a significant amount of time. Cast and crew screenings were held in August 2020, but as cinemas are only now able to welcome back audiences, the film is got its public premiere in Karlovy Vary, it's UK premier on 11 October and is now set for general release as people return to cinemas.
