Don Julio by Pablo Jesus Rivero, in Argentina, has been named as the best restaurant in Latin America by Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants. Maido in Lima, Peru, dropped from first place to second spot on the list and Central, also Lima, placed third.
Don Julio is an informal-style restaurant in the heart of the Palermo district of Buenos Aires. They truly have mastered the art of meat, beef particularly, in all its glorious forms. A place where expert craftsmen on the grill deliver recipes, techniques, traditions and tastes that have been perfected over years.
The fourth position on the list was awarded to A Casa Do Porco in Brazil while Pujol in Mexico came in fifth. The list was announced during a digital event replacing the usual ceremony.
The Estrella Damm Chef’s Choice award, picked by all the chefs on the list, was given to Leonor Espinosa from the Leo restaurant in Bogota, Colombia which was ranked 27th on the list. Narda Lepes from the Narda Comedor restaurant in Buenos Aires was awarded Best Female Chef and the American Express Icon award went to Janaina Rueda from the Dona Onça restaurant in São Paulo. Fauna in Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico, was picked as the Miele One to Watch.
