Ferran Adrià, Joan Roca and Martín Berasategui were some of the chefs who have joined the #daremoslacara campaign to request help from public institutions for a sector severely affected by the coronavirus crisis and risking 1.7 million jobs.
The video campaign brought together 16 of Spain’s top chefs with 30 Michelin stars between them, unmasking their faces to request help for their employees, their suppliers and their customers.
"It is about sending a message of hope to the hospitality industry and demanding from the public institutions the necessary aid to facilitate the return to normality of bars and restaurants, one of the sectors most economically punished by the COVID-19 crisis," they explain.
Spain is a country, like Italy, highly dependent on tourism and the hospitality industries with the latter contributing 6.2% of GDP before the health emergency was issued and forced them to close. The organisers are hoping to add "all the hoteliers in Spain", to the collective call for action.
The campaign, which can be seen on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, has chosen renowned chefs around Spain so that, on behalf of everyone, they generate “a chain of solidarity, which invites both professional colleagues and suppliers to join and clients such as large corporations and public and private institutions.
“It is time for all of us to face each other and fight closer than ever,” say the hoteliers.
