Chef Julien Royer from the Odette restaurant in Singapore was crowned Best Restaurant in Asia for a second consecutive year, during a unique Asia's 50 Best Restaurants event, sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, that saw the gastronomy community unite for an online ceremony viewed by thousands of people around the world.
In a show of solidarity William Drew, from the World's 50 Best team also commented; "We believe that restaurants and chefs in Asia not only deserve recognition but also need our support right now. Furthermore, the gastronomic community in Asia has specifically asked that we proceed with this edition of the list, albeit in a very different form to usual, in a bid to shine some positive light into the darkness”
While viewers eagerly awaited number one, it was The Chairman in Hong Kong run by chef Kwok Keung Tung that secured the second on the list. Chef Zaiyu Hasegawa’s Den restaurant in Tokyo was placed third and Masque from India was picked as the Meile One to Watch.
