Alain Ducasse is the chef with the most Michelin stars in the world with a total of 20 stars (see below for the full list of his starred restaurants). French-born in 1956 on a farm in the Landes region, Ducasse developed a taste for locally grown produce from a very young age.
He started working in the kitchen in his teens and developed a fascination with Provençal cuisine in the late 1970s while working at Le Moulin de Mougins. He won his first Michelin star as head chef at La Terrasse at the Hotel Juana in Juan les Pins. Since then, he has built a business empire that spans the globe from Las Vegas to Tokyo, at over 72 locations, of which 36 are restaurants. In 2005, Ducasse also became the first chef to own three restaurants with three Michelin stars in three different cities at the same time. Chef Ducasse’s flagship restaurants include Louis XV at the Hotel de Paris in Monaco and Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, both of which have three Michelin stars.
Thousands of restaurants around the world are awarded the prestigious stars every year by the dozens of Michelin Guides. Today, the collection covers 28 titles in more than 25 countries meaning there is ample opportunity for ambitious chefs to reach for the stars.
