The list of the World’s 50 Best Bars is out and New York’s Dante claims the coveted number one slot.
London and its glut of high-end watering holes dominates the list but Buenos Aires, Athens, Singapore and Mexico City also made the top 10.
Dante, which won the best bar in the world at the Spirited Awards in August, and is up from number 9 on last year’s list, affirmed its reputation as a fresh and vibrant Greenwich Village bar with a penchant for very fine cocktails.
The bar is a modern incarnation of an original 1915 café bar that served as a meeting house for people of all walks of life in the village. Artists, writers and actors would rub shoulders with local blue-collar workers and Italian immigrants. An iconic bar to the beatnik generation, Dante has landmark status in the City of New York.
Today, the bar is run by industry professionals with a passion for retaining the soul of the place while also breathing new life into it with excellent Italian cuisine, world-class cocktails.
The Connacht Bar in the iconic Mayfair hotel in London claimed the number two position while Buenos Aires’ Florería Atlántico with its authentic, fantastical ode to the Argentine capital came in at number 3,
