The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is one of the biggest award shows in gastronomy, almost everyone in the food world is aware of the list but what many people don’t realise is as well as the 50 best restaurants, the organisation also rank restaurants from 51-100.
This year, the list has been released early giving us all a snapshot of the restaurants breaking through on the list, those rising the ranks and those who may have dropped out of the top 50.
Number 51 on the list starts with restaurant Geranium in Denmark which was at number 42 in 2014, another notable drop sees the Daniel restaurant by Daniel Boulud down from number 40 on the list in 2014 to number 80 - even though the chef will receive The Lifetime Achievement award at this year’s ceremony.
De Librije in the Netherlands and Martín Berasategui in San Sebastian, both re-entries on the 2014 list, drop down to the top 100 alongside Coi and Waku Ghin which were both new entries on the top 50 list in 2014. The Fat Duck by Heston Blumenthal, once at the top of the list, now sits at number 73, down from 47 in 2014.
Last year’s One to Watch award went to Saison in San Francisco which jumps from 69 in 2014 up to 56 in 2015. Another strong riser is The Clove Club in London which jumps from number 87 in 2014 up to 55 and very close to breaking into the top half of the list.
