Obscure to most Americans, the cuisine of Azerbaijan is a ''dream come true.'' That's according to French actor Gerard Depardieu who proclaims those words in a commercial promoting the country's food.
Before we dive into the details of Depardieu's new commercial we've got to address the elephant in the room. We imagine you've got one big question: where in the world is Azerbaijan?
Azerbaijan is neighbored by Russia to the north, Iran to the south, Georgia to the northwest and the Caspian Sea to the east. The country's cuisine is a product of the different cultures of the region and is rich in vegetables, fish, barbecued meat and chicken, flatbreads and rice dishes.
In 2011, Depardieu traveled to Azerbaijan to get in touch with the local film industry, according to reports from Azer News. During his time in the captial city of Baku, he reportedly became fond of the cuisine and was tapped by the department of tourism for the gig.
