South Africa is a booming culinary destination as evidenced by the talent discovered at the 2014 Eat Out Restaurant Awards, which honor the country's top 10 restaurants and chefs.
Luke Dale-Roberts' Test Kitchen in Cape Town took the coveted first place for the third consecutive year (pictured above). Johannesburg restaurant Five Hundred, run by 2013 Chef of the Year David Higgs, kept its second place in the Top 10 restaurant list while Margot Janse's The Tasting Room in Franschhoe came in third.
There were other prestigious awards given during the 2014 Eat Out Restaurant Awards. Among them was the S.Pellegrino Chef of the Year 2014 which went to Chantel Dartnall from Restaurant Mosaic at the Orient (pictured below).
The Grolsch Service Excellence Award went to The Tasting Room while the Lannice Snyman Lifetime Achievement Award, was given to Eduan Naudé and the late Brian Shalkoff, former owners of Gramadoelas restaurant in Johannesburg.
The Nederburg Rising Star Award went to the talented chef Kobus van der Merwe of Oep ve Koep in Paternoster. Last but not least the Tsogo Sun Wine Service Award for a top sommelier was given to Patson Mathonsi of DW Eleven-13.
