OpenTable, the restaurant reservation platform has published what they say is the most popular restaurant in the US, according to the reservations they process.
Founding Farmers restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington D.C. is OpenTable’s most booked restaurants with as many as 1,500 reservation requests processed every day.
The establishment benefits from being in the right location, close to all D.C.’s major attractions, and in a city where the wheels of politics turn on the working lunch, it is a place that is always in demand.
“You can see anyone from a Supreme Court Justice to a college kid from George Washington University, to K-Street power brokers, to tourists visiting D.C. from the Midwest,” says Dan Simons, co-founder of Farmers Restaurant Group.
It helps too, that the restaurant is open every day of the year, for breakfast, lunch and dinner making it a reliable choice all year round.
The restaurant’s business model, as the name suggests, is based on greater involvement by the North Dakota Farmers Union. It goes beyond Farm-to-Fork’ giving the farmers and growers and active stake in the food industry and a greater share of the food dollar.
Most of its ingredients are locally and responsibly sourced like the invasive Chesapeake Bay catfish, which helps control the population.
OpenTable released some other statistics which make for interesting reading. ‘Keto’ is still very much a thing with mentions of it up 683% on 2017, with the term ‘plant-based’ up 136%, Jackfruit made a serious rise in mentions on the platform, up 187%.
