The Michelin Guide to Hong Kong and Macau 2020 has been published and the cities cement their status as gastronomic hotspots, not just in the region, but globally with the addition of two new 3-star restaurants and three new 2-stars added.
Both new 3-stars are located in Hong Kong, a city that has had its share of unrest recently, which have created difficult circumstances for restaurateurs. Nevertheless, the standards at Forum and Sushi Shikon continue to rise, placing them in the highest category of fine dining experiences according to the guide.
Forum, famous for its signature dish, the Ah Yat braised abalone, named after owner-chef Yeung Koon Yat, is braised for days and attracts globe-trotting gourmands to Hong Kong just to taste it. The other new 3-star is the world-class Sushi Shikon at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental.
With the five restaurants who maintained their three stars from last year, the two additions bring Hong Kong’s total to seven, including Caprice, L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon, Lung King Heen, 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo – Bombana and T’ang Court.
All three 3-star restaurants in Macau, Jade Dragon, Robuchon au Dôme and The Eight, have retained their stars.
Three new 2-star restaurants were added t the guide this year, one in Hong Kong and two in Macau. Contemporary French restaurant Arbor gains a second star after debuting in the guide last year. While Sichuan Moon in Macau’s Wynn Palace, comes straight in with two stars as does Cantonese fine-dining restaurant Wing Lei. Macau now has seven two-starred establishments in total.
There are 61 one-star establishments in the Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macau 2020, including 11 new additions in Hong Kong.
