Provocative and captivating: two of the main qualities that the International Photo Awards are in constant search of. And so, it was this year in New York during the 16th Lucie Awards gala in New York, the Academy Awards of the photography world where Tawny Chatmon has crowned Photographer of the Year and Mohammad Rakibul Hasan was awarded Discovery of the Year.
The International Photography Awards conduct an annual photography competition for professional, non-professional, and student photographers on a global level, creating one of the most ambitious and comprehensive competitions in the photography world today. It’s here that the photography world’s leading talents are recognized, those who are creating, shaping and defining the world of photography today. This year, the submissions were over 20,000 - calling both professional and amateur or student photographers to compete for different titles, among them the most prestigious "Photographer of the Year".
This year's IPA international jury – a selection of photo editors, art collectors, gallerists and other luminaries from the world's photo community as usual - was led by Susan Baraz, co-chair and founding member of the Lucie Awards: Baraz was also responsible for selecting the jurors as well as overseeing their adjudication process to select the winners, based on originality, technical excellence, and artistic merit.
