Baking fever is about to hit the British nation again as The Great British Bake Off kicks off its tenth season on Channel 4 tonight, August 27. And this year, fans of the hit baking show across the Atlantic will also be able to follow the drama as it unfolds, albeit three days later, via Netflix.
Just in time for Labor Day weekend, tonight’s first episode will air on Netflix on Friday, August 30, renamed as The Great British Baking Show (GBBS) for the US market; an adjustment that had to be made so there were no mix-ups between GBBS and the popular Pillsbury Bake Off that’s been going strong since 1949 in the States.
The BAFTA award-winning show is behind the “Bake Off Effect”, which over its ten-year story has woken up a nation of home bakers, being credited for the increase in annual bake sales across bakeries and supplies like syrup, pastry bags and cake tins all over the country.
It also made words like #Bingate and #Custardgate enter into our living rooms as it broke TV records, time and time again (a whopping 16 million viewers had their eyes glued to the screens for the finale of the series in 2016).
Who will rise through the heat, or otherwise be baked this year? We for sure will be keeping our eyes out for the Hollywood Handshake…
Check it out: Netflix, from August 30.
