Chicken nuggets, fish fingers, hot dogs no more. Adults with a taste for fine dining now have something to be envious about in their children’s meals if they happen to be flying with German airline Lufthansa.
This month, Lufthansa launched a new in-flight kid’s menu in collaboration with chef Alexander Herrmann of the two Michelin-starred Alexander Herrmann by Tobias Bätz, Wirsberg. The menu features options such as ‘rice pudding mouse’ (a composition of creamy rice pudding and raspberries), ‘dragon feet’ (sausages with sauerkraut and mash potatoes), all selected carefully by chef Herrmann alongside a discerning, young tasting jury.

In coming up with the menu, Herrmann prepared around 40 dishes and presented them to an international panel of taste-testers, all children aged between 4 and 9. They voted, and the final menu items were selected.
The final dishes are colourful, playful, but more importantly, nutritionally balanced.
The new menu is available on Lufthansa’s long-haul flights and some long-distance European flights for children passengers under the age of 12.
