History of Mississippi mud pie
Like a lot of classic recipes, the origins of the Mississippi mud pie are somewhat hazy, although it seems fairly likely to have originated in the American state of the same name. The name is thought to derive from the cake’s resemblance to the less appetising mud banks of the Mississippi River and the earliest known reference to it dates from 1975. Recipe variations abound but the classic ingredients are chocolate sauce, brownie and chocolate custard on top of a chocolatey crust.

Storage
We have a feeling your mud pie won’t be around for long, but it will keep in the freezer for a couple of days. Having said that, be careful not to refreeze it if the ice cream has melted completely.
