Esquire magazine has released a list of what it considers to be the 18 best new restaurants in America.
The list, compiled by the magazine’s food & drinks editor Jeff Gordinier, celebrates restaurants that “make you want to become a regular, the ones that lure you back for another round of cacio e pepe or okonomiyaki," rather than those with elaborate tasting menus.
Topping the list this year – the list covers the past two years following a hiatus – is Felix Trattoria in Venice, California, a restaurant Gordinier describes as “the incarnation of everything life ought to be” and where you can watch chef Evan Funke rolling out the pasta you're about to eat. Other notable mentions include Enrique Olvera’s Atla, and Olmstead in New York and Brad Kilgore’s Alter in Miami.
Overall, New York has five restaurants on the list, while Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco all have two.
