The Link Between Dark Chocolate and Productivity
Could you use an afternoon pick-me-up? Instead of reaching for a cup of joe, a nibble of dark chocolate may be your best bet. That's at least according to a new study which found that dark chocolate may help increase your attention span and productivity while offering heart-healthy benefits.
Researchers from Northern Arizona University (NAU ) tested 122 participants, ranging from 18-15 years of age, and examined their brains after eating dark chocolate. The study revealed that those who consumed dark chocolate with at least 60 percent cacao were more alert and attentive.
“A lot of us in the afternoon get a little fuzzy and can’t pay attention, particularly students, so we could have a higher cacao content chocolate bar and it would increase attention,” said Dr. Larry Stevens, NAU professor of psychological sciences.
However, don't go grabbing just any candy bar. Stevens said to really reap the health benefits you'll need to consume dark chocolate because it "activates the brain in a really special way.”
