O-M-G. Cronut inventor Dominique Ansel has found a whole new way to make us get out of bed: he's developed a tasty gourmet breakfast cereal made with Valrhona chocolate.
Debuting just in time for the holidays, Ansel's Christmas Morning Cereal is a crunchy blend of "Valrhona Caramelia (caramelized milk) chocolate Rice Krispies, caramelized hazelnuts, and smoked cinnamon Mini-Me's (miniature meringues)," according to the bakery website.
Serious Eats sampled Ansel's cold cereal and here's what they had to say:
"It's clear that a fair amount of cereal-research went into this product. For one thing, the chocolate rice clusters stay crunchy in milk for quite some time. And the Mini-Mes are like marshmallows in Lucky Charms—their edges get slippery but they keep their crunch. Their smoked cinnamon flavor is noticeable when in milk but is much more pronounced when eaten plain. The hazelnuts have a subtle spiciness and also stay crunchy in milk."
The cereal is great with cold milk for breakfast but doubles as a dessert when used as a topping for ice cream. It retails for $15.
Perhaps if you're on Santa's 'nice' list someone will treat you to this amazing Christmas foodie gift.
