It’s not just the food that makes a meal, but drinks and service (meaning the flatware and tableware) are factors that customers and passengers take notice of. And airlines that want to impress are bidding goodbye to plastic and formica and bringing in the crystal and porcelain.
Jet Airways serves meals on Limoges porcelains from the long-established and renowned French brand Bernardaud, while Malaysia Airlines opts for Wedgwood. Singapore Airlines, which gives its passengers a choice of champagne to enjoy at the beginning of the flight, serves its meals on gorgeous Chinese ceramics from Givenchy. At the end of the meal service, Austrian Airlines serves coffee with whipped cream and a bit of chocolate on the side. On a silver platter, of course.
