Being the only country to produce the world’s most expensive, sought-after and delicious potato is obviously something France is proud of, and the country isn’t shy about showing off the Bonnotte. As the pride and joy of French agriculture, it’s also the claim to fame for the island of Noirnmoutier, whose Coopérative Agricole elected the tuber as the island’s “Universal Ambassador”.
And for thirteen years, the Bonnotte has been celebrated each May, right around the time of its harvest, with the Fête traditionelle de la Bonnotte. And the Coopérative Agricole de Noirmoutier has even dedicated a website to the prestigious potato that every French gourmand holds dear to his heart.
And France has no more famous and respected authority on all that’s gourmet than Alain Ducasse, who in April 2011, hosted a special evening at his Ecole de Cuisine dedicated to creating and sharing recipes featuring the Bonnotte Primeur potato. Guest chefs for the special event included Cédric Béchade, Lionel Levy, Alexandre Couillon and Arnaud Lallement.
