The third annual White Guide to the best restaurants in the Nordic countries, covering Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden has been released, and Copenhagen and Stockholm have seven and six restaurants in the top 30 respectively.
Claiming top spot this year is the Nordic/Japanese fusion restaurant Esperanto in Stockholm; followed closely by Magnus Nilsson’s Fäviken, with the three Michelin star Maaemo in Oslo, third. Last year’s winner Noma didn’t qualify for the list this year, as it will close shortly.
In total 325 restaurants are listed in the guide. Norway is undergoing something of a restaurant boom according to those behind the guide (which started in Sweden in 2004), with 16 new entries, while Finland has 13 new entries. There is still some way to go before they can compete with Denmark and Sweden’s culinary dominance however, with only three and one restaurant in the top 30 respectively. Koks Kirkjubøur in the Faroe Islands comes in at number 17.
This year’s guide also covers 60 of the best restaurants in the Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. See the top 30 best restaurants in the Nordic countries according to the White Guide below.
