London’s Connaught Bar at The Connaught hotel has been awarded the title of World’s Best Cocktail Bar at the Tales of the Cocktail festival's 10th Annual Spirited Awards in New Orleans.
As in 2015, London dominated, with awards for The American Bar at The Savoy (Best International Bar Team), Happiness Forgets (Best International Cocktail Bar), Hawksmoor, Spitalfields (Best International Restaurant Bar) and Ryan Chetiyawardana of Danelyon (World’s Best Cocktail Menu).
Winners in the American category included ABV (Best American Bar Team) and (Best American Cocktail Bar) Smuggler’s Cove, both in San Francisco.
Overall, four of the eight nominees for the top award were UK–based. Connaught Bar also took the title of Best International Hotel Bar.
Tales of the Cocktail welcomes the breadth of the spirits industry to New Orleans every year for seminars, workshops, tastings and networking events, as well as organising drinks events all around the world. A panel of 100 industry experts judges the Spirited Awards, described as the Oscars of the drinks world.
Perhaps this bodes well for the Connaught Bar for World’s 50 Best Bars, which takes place in October – ninth in 2015, will it take top spot there too?
