Eric Ripert’s New York restaurant Le Bernadin joined Guy Savoy’s eponymous Paris establishment at the apex of the fine dining world according to the La Liste 1000 Best Restaurants in the World 2019.
This year’s La Liste sees two restaurants occupy the top spot with last year’s second place Le Bernadin rising to the top but failing to topple Guy Savoy which has been the French listing’s top choice for the third year in a row.
Another French restaurant – Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénéé completes the top three while Martin Berasategui flies the Basque flag in fourth place for his restaurant in Lasarte-Oria, Spain. Japan is represented by Tokyo favourite Matsukawa in fifth position.
The list, compiled by an algorithm from 550 guides and over 40 million scanned reviews, is billed as the data-driven approach to restaurant rating. With five of the top 10 restaurants found in France, La Liste puts the country far ahead when it comes to fine dining.
