Finally, it’s here - Albert Adrià’s much anticipated dessert restaurant Cakes & Bubbles opened on November 7 and from what we can see so far, it’s what we’ve expected from The World’s Best Pastry Chef.
Located in Piccadilly’s Hotel Cafe Royal, Cakes & Bubbles celebrated its opening this week with free cheesecake, champagne and lots of champagne-coloured balloons. Also up for grabs on the day for one lucky guest was a special 'ticket' to Tickets - his playful, much loved restaurant in Barcelona.
Also on the menu are chocolate and peanut eclairs that weigh just 12 g, a lighter-than-air 3 g carrot cake meringue and a gold-coated hen’s egg filled with passion fruit. To the delight of anyone watching their sugar intake, desserts at Cakes & Bubbles are focused on locally sourced fruit to act as sweeteners, rather than added sugar.
Adrià is serious about sweets, so don’t expect any sugary frostings or gimmicky glitter, best left to your Instagram feed rather than in your stomach.
There is also a dessert tasting menu, with the choice of four or eight sweets suitably sized for sharing. True to its name, the dessert venue also offers champagne pairing, with a meticulously curated list of bubbles available by the glass or bottle.
