Acclaimed Spanish chef Albert Adrià is to open a restaurant focusing on dessert and sparkling wine in London in November it’s been announced, his first permanent restaurant outside of Spain.
Adrià, whose Barcelona restaurant group includes the much loved Tickets, as well as Pakta and Enigma, will open Cakes and Bubbles at the Hotel Café Royal in the city’s West End, Eater reports.
Having previously hosted a pop up there in 2016, Adrià says it was an easy decision to return to the hotel, with whom he has a strong relationship, and to the city he describes as “the centre of the world.”
A pastry chef by trade, Adrià has been steadily building a restaurant empire in Barcelona under the elBarri group umbrella, the most recent opening being the high concept Enigma, which he has described as the natural successor to elBulli, he and brother Ferran Adrià's seminal restaurant on the Costa Brava, which closed in 2011.
The no doubt delicious desserts on offer at Cakes and Bubbles will include cheesecakes, egg flans, waffles, ice cream, mille-feuille and handmade chocolates kicked up to Adrià level, while the sparkling wine menu will feature bottles from across Europe, including from the UK.
Take a look at a couple of dishes below. London dining just got that bit sweeter.
