Bongkoch "Bee" Satongun chef of Paste restaurant in Bangkok, has been named elit® Vodka Asia’s Best Female Chef 2018 ahead of the announcement at the S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna sponsored Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list on 27 March 2018 in Macao.
The self-taught chef honed her culinary skills while working in her family’s local restaurant before opening Paste with her Australia-born chef husband Jason Bailey a few years ago. They went on to open a second restaurant in Bangkok's Gaysorn Village luxury mall in 2015.
Accepting the prestigious honour, Satongun added: “My dream has always been to introduce the world to an elevated version of Thai cuisine. While I am shocked to receive this award, it inspires me for the future.”
Satongun is an ambassador for Thai food striking a delicate balance between traditional Thai cuisine and contemporary techniques. Using her technical expertise and creative flair she revives Thai culinary traditions and ancient recipes concentrating on rare ingredients to create dishes that are defined by their authentic flavours, contrasting textures and attention to detail.
“Bee is a pioneering chef, not only among women, but in the culinary community overall. Her nonconformist approach and masterful combinations will inspire the industry for years to come" commented Frances Gaillard, International Marketing Director for Stoli Group, overseeing elit® Vodka.
Bee will accept her prize at the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants awards ceremony in Macao, taking the baton from last year's winner, May Chow from Hong Kong.
