The chicken pictures above might seem like any old regular slice of crispy fried chicken, but you might be surpassed to learn that it was actually grown in a lab.
That’s right, Memphis Meats have announced their latest innovation which involves growing chicken and duck by using cultures from cells.
The meat is grown inside a lab and is made without any animals dying, a potential game changer for a future where meat and meat production become too expensive to sustain.
Red meat was the starting block for growing lab meat, with a burger already going out to the world. Now the same technique is being applied to chicken, ticking off two of the major meat sources.
If you’re worried about your regular meat being replaced, you’ve got a while to wait yet. Memphis Meats expects to have their lab grown meat commercially available by 2021.
