The welcome trend in recent years has been for ever more artisinal potato chips (crisps), with gourmet flavours that elevate the humble fried potato to the status of posh snack. In fact this has been happening across the snack world – only last week, the actress Scarlett Johansson opened her own gourmet popcorn store in Paris called Yummy Pop, with flavours including truffle, sage, and parmesan.
These crisps by a Swedish craft brewery might be taking the concept of the posh snack a little too far however. St. Eriks and chef Pi Le created the limited edition chips, served in special presentation boxes of five, to pair with the brewery's reportedly superior IPA.
As Food Republic reports, the handcooked chips, crafted from almond potatoes, are "shaped by hand and carefully fried to maintain their shape ... dusted with powdered matsutake mushrooms, seaweed with truffle notes, handpicked Swedish crown dill, meticulously cultivated Leksand onions and ... dehydrated wort from the IPA."
Each box retails for $56, and as delicious as they sound, we think we'll stick to the standard brands for now, given the rate at which we tend to work our way through a bowl. However, we can report that the first batch has sold out, with all proceeds going to charity.
