The Swedish furniture giant Ikea, which always seems to stay somewhere on the cutting edge despite being a huge company (the Instagram food porn parody video below is a nice little example), has developed a $169 Ikea mini kitchen for small apartments.
As Food and Wine reports, the Sunnersta mini kitchen (unit and utility cart) is completely portable and free standing, and contains a cooktop, a sink and space for a small fridge – now you can actually pack the kitchen sink when you move!

It also has adjustable legs to compensate for any discrepancies in floorboard height – there are few restaurant tables that could do with something similar, we’re sure you’ll agree – and is, Ikea claim, easy to install.
With cities becoming ever more densely populated and with space at a premium, this is a great idea and really could be a template for kitchens of the future. Its certainly more inspirational/aspirational than some of the compact kitchens for small spaces you see currently.
Plus, great for offices – boss, if you’re reading.
